El Mirador

The source of Mirador or El Mirador is located in an about 240km² area around the monolit called Piedra Parada (Chubut Province). The exact spot is not known but they seem to occur at several places.

 

The typical thunderegg from that site has a greyish matrix and reddish agate core.

Piedra Parada

The main source at Piedra Parada is the same called one. It is located at a hill containing nearly only of thundereggs.

 

The material is quite unique, showing a reddish brown matrix with blueish or clear chalcedony fillings.

There are a few locations for lithophysae agates in Argentinia. This egg comes from nearby the famous San Rafael area called Rio Colorado (Province Mendoza). It has a nice bi-colored banding in the typical reddish matrix.
